Living as a Leader for Executives

Strengthening the leadership abilities of your most senior executives will impact the performance of employees at every level of your company and strengthen your bottom line. Since starting Impact Consulting Group, LLC in 1995, and then Living As A Leader in 2002, Aleta Norris and Nancy Lewis have been supporting the diverse needs of executives in many capacities.

As a result of providing customized, comprehensive executive development services, they have seen a growing need for support at the most senior executive levels. This need has led to the development of a new collection of services. These services, called Living As A Leader for Executives, provide access to individual support and counsel to address specific leadership challenges at this level. If you are a member of your organization's senior or executive leadership team, these services are for you.

Flat Fee, Unlimited One-On-One Coaching

Let us be available when you need us!   We work with a number of leaders who pick up the phone regularly for our help.  They want to meet with us, they want to talk with us, they want to run something by us to look at.  And, we’ve discovered that it helps to not have a clock running.  So, our concept is simple!  Pay an annual fee and have access to us whenever you need one-on-one support!

Here are examples of ways we’ve helped:

  • Preparation for important performance appraisal conversations – we talk through this or we review written, prepared evaluations to provide input

  • Discussion and strategizing to address difficult situations and prepare for difficult conversations

  • Planning for engaging and effective leadership team meetings

  • Leadership skill development

  • Addressing a variety of leadership challenges, issues or concerns

“…Many times we managed without thinking, as though through our experience we surely would be doing the right thing.  Through Nancy’s thoughtful guidance and coaching, we started really thinking about what we were doing and how we were managing, and we realized we weren’t as wonderful as we thought.   Through Nancy’s assessment, my own reflection and your thoughtful training, I rediscovered how critical my communication with others could and should be.  It is far too important for me to not give critical thought to purposeful communication. …The coaching process Nancy provided supported a replicable, thoughtful approach to evaluating my action and addressing next steps.  Where else can a leader open themselves to find that support and not lose the necessary confidence that leadership requires?”

Alexian Village of Milwaukee

“Aleta’s efforts have had a profound impact on our business.   As an outsider looking in, she has a fresh perspective and is able to bring an honest evaluation to the strengths and weaknesses of my business.”

We are committed to helping executives
understand the importance of proactive, intentional leadership

Executive Leadership Forums

Three times a year.  We will create a forum to bring executives together to talk JUST about leadership.  Topics that we plan to address in 2009 will touch on:

  • Keys to building a cohesive senior leadership team

  • Organizational clarity:  How to create it, over communicate it and build it into your systems.

Our last Executive forum date for 2009 is November 6th.

These are stand-alone events.  If you can attend, great.  If you aren’t available, just come next time.  You don’t have to JOIN anything.

Register for our next Executive forum.

We’ve been asked by a number of people…how are we different from TEC?  TEC is excellent, and a number of our clients are members.  We will be different in that we will talk specifically about leadership issues.  And, we will be right with you, available as experts.  We’ve studied leadership for over 20 years.

“I completed the professional development series back in 2005 and based on my overwhelmingly positive experience, I have been referring the Living As A Leader series as well as the Leadership Breakfasts to my staff and colleagues ever since.  Living As A Leader provides tailored training and coaching for leaders with varying skill sets and strengths.  Leadership is a critical component to our firm's success - it impacts all levels of our organization – Living As A Leader is a good investment in the future talent of our business.”

Lori Lorenz, Human Resources Director

Robert W. Baird & Co.

Leadership Book Recaps

Currently, as we support leaders at large, we recap a leadership book once a month.  This is a succinct one-page collection of thoughts from the book.  It is a quick shot in the arm, intended to help leaders stay current on contemporary leadership issues and foster their steady development over time.

We will continue this practice, focusing on book selections specific to executive-level leadership issues.

Customized Leadership Team Development

We have worked with many different executive leadership teams over the years in a variety of different capacities and consistently receive great feedback on the value of providing “steady progress over time” support to executive leadership teams who are often overwhelmed, extremely busy and unable to give sufficient attention to the important leadership role they play within their organizations.  Listed below is a sample list of customized ways in which we have supported executive leadership teams.

  • Development of positive, powerful peer relationships on the executive team

  • Short-term and long-term strategic planning

  • Creation and implementation of a company-wide leadership culture

    • Values and core competencies of leaders

    • Accountability system for leadership effectiveness

  • Alignment of the executive leadership team

    • Defining Roles and responsibilities of each of the members on the team

    • Identifying strengths and necessary contributions of each executive team member

    • Clarifying strategic initiatives

    • Identifying critical stakeholders

    • Establishing ground rules/rules of engagement

  • Providing tools, tips and strategies for engaging the executive leadership team in content-rich discussions that encourage divergent thinking, creativity, innovation and challenging the status quo.

“In 2007, I hired Aleta to work with my senior leadership team for a number of reasons.  These included to:

1)  Strengthen their visibility and practices as leaders at large in the organization

2)  Improve their peer collaborations during critical meetings, as well as in their day-to-day work

3)  Lead their functional areas more intentionally.

This was not so much about techniques as it was the practice of leadership.  Over time, as this team became more aligned and effective in their roles, the line outside my door diminished.  This enabled me to be more effective in my role as CEO, with measurable time spent focusing on strategy and vision.  I am very pleased with the value Aleta contributed.  Along the way, she earned the respect of each member of my team.”

Variety of Assessment Tools

Leadership effectiveness begins with self-awareness…both at the individual and team level.  We use a variety of assessments to build a foundation for development:

  • DiSC Interpersonal Style Inventory

  • StrengthsProfile

  • The Attentional and Interpersonal Style Inventory

  • Simple methods to collect 360° feedback from direct reports and employees

“…Starting with our facilitation needs, building to program design and implementation and now consulting with our Executive staff and Board of Directors, Impact Consulting has consistently provided superior service.  A major reason Impact Consulting is able to provide superior service is because they have the ability to clearly identify opportunities for improvement and, perhaps more importantly, clearly and consciously communicate the best way to address that opportunity.  We will continue our relationship because Impact Consulting has set itself apart by applying its collective experience and expertise to our unique situations.”
