I really enjoyed both the class sessions and the individual coaching sessions.  The class sessions allow you to discuss and get feedback from people in similar positions that are experiencing the same things but perhaps have a different perspective on the problem.  Getting feedback from someone outside of my organization was very insightful.  The individual coaching was also very helpful.  It was frustrating at times because my coach would continually challenge me with what the next question or issue might be, but it was also  invaluable in helping me grow as a leader.

I highly recommend the Living As A LeaderTM series. LAAL stresses many important leadership concepts that, sadly, are NOT part of many manager's and supervisor's DNA. Some concepts that I recall include:

  • Managers manage. Leaders Lead.

  • It's not only WHAT you do but also HOW you do it. It really does matter!

  • Its definitely NOT "all about me!”

  • If you have not made someone's day better just by you being at work today, whether it is providing guidance, advice, a greeting, or just a smile, then you have likely done the opposite, and have failed as a leader.

The training takes place in half-day segments, once each month over the course of a year. This scheduling allows the participants to absorb and apply the valuable lessons without the brain overload one often gets if in all-day training in back-to-back days.

 

The trainers really know their stuff and have a true passion for making a positive difference in today’s corporate leadership. The lessons are entertaining as well as educational. Before you know it, you will become more personable, more amiable and more effective. Who wouldn’t want that in any leader?

I wanted to comment as the supervisor of two employees that have attended the LAAL courses. Both employees have shown great improvement in the areas of dealing with other employees and becoming leaders. I feel that the approach of a few hours per session and time in between to work on what you have learned is much better than trying to cram a ton of information into someone in a two day period. I have a couple of employees in the Boston area that could really use this course. They are very good individual contributors but have been unable to step up to the role as leaders. From what I have seen, LAAL is just what they need.

The Living as a LeaderTM (LAAL) program has proven very valuable to our organization. Many of our managers had difficulty "stepping out of the managerial box" and leading.  This was particularly true when they were confronted with very emotional issues or when they had to make unpopular decisions.  I believe one of the main reasons that LAAL was so successful for us is the real-life coaching element which allows for practical application of the LAAL principles to real life situations.  It is a very powerful reinforcement tool.  We have been sending 2-3 manager to every LAAL session and we are having the LAAL team do an in-house version for our front-line managers.

Great session yesterday.  LAAL is proving to be a great asset to me and my dept.  It's giving me the "Momentum" to take my Focus Factory to a new level.  The tools and personal expertise that Lori (my coach) and this Development Series has given me is by far more than I had originally expected.  I look forward to the remainder of the series, and again, thanks.  I think you are doing a great job,  communication of subjects is excellent and very professional, and your knowledge of series subjects and how they become part of and are implemented into our daily situations is outstanding.  One last FYI, you all do a great job in bringing humor and enjoyment to these training sessions, I think this is great, I actually look forward to this 4 hours every month!
